I'M Kenneth Spirduso

Light. I fell in love with light at an early age, when my dad, who was a professional photographer, taught me about its mysterious beauty. While studying at the University of Kansas and Atelier Lack, I was influenced and inspired by instructors John Collier, Robert Sudlow, Richard Lack and Steve Gjertson, who were masters at capturing light in their paintings. When my career path led me to animation, first in Dublin Ireland with Don Bluth and then in Orlando with Walt Disney Feature Animation-Florida, I found a home in the layout and background departments where drawing and painting light were important components of my job.

Thumbelina, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, Tarzan, Lilo and Stitch, and Brother Bear were some of the films I had the privilege to work on over a 15 year period. In addition, I have worked as an artistic consultant with Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Creative and the US military and taught homeschoolers and college students.

As a painter, my focus is still on light-how its color temperature influences a landscape, how it creates beautiful shapes on a face, how it flows over the form of a horse.
